Iwako and Zensinsyoji Japanese Erasers
Japanese erasers are colorful miniature characters, toys, and foods for kids to collect, trade, and play with. Their puzzle designs allow them to be taken apart and put back together, and they are functioning erasers kids can use in school or at home.
They typically sell for $1 each.
The 2 top made-in-Japan eraser producers are Iwako and Zensinsyoji. They use non-toxic lead-free safe materials. These items are environmentally friendly recyclable erasers sold in recycled paper packaging. They offer hundreds of styles and colors to choose from with new ones being added all of the time. The erasers can be bought individually or in sets.
The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) chose Japanese mini collectible erasers as one of the Best Toys for Kids in 2009. They look for toys that encourage creativity, are unique, and safe.
They are recommended for ages 8 and up.
I started noticing them in 2009. They were, and still are, quite the trend in my daughter's elementary school.

Not just for Kids!
While looking through the bin of Japanese Erasers at our local specialty toy store I happened upon This pair of orange & purple squids. I had to have them.
You see, I'm a lensmaster on Squidoo and their 'mascot' is an orange squid. So I now have a thing for cute squids.

How to Spot a Fake
Due to the popularity of Japanese erasers fakes are popping up everywhere.
The counterfeit quality is poor, the material is a heavier, low cost,
non-recyclable PVC made in dirty factories in China, and
they are illegal. Fake products might contain toxins and lead. The real ones are top quality.
Check the package...if it says "Made
in China" you know it's not authentic. Another hint is if there are misspellings or if everything is written in English.

These are soo cute, this is the first time I have seen anything like them. Awww what a adorable collection.
When I lived in S. Korea these were very popular - I loved them, the color, the texture. The food ones are great. Alas, I gave them all away to my students and kept none for myself - and the students really, really appreciated them. I voted!
